I came home one afternoon from work to find my husband covered down in bed and a cup of herbal tea by his side.
He had caught a cold and my aunt was kind enough to pick her go-to herbs for him to make a concoction. 'Honey suckle and some other bush' he answered when I inquired what this could be.
"Psh! That's a joke. Don't drink anymore. I'll give you something that'll knock your cold's socks off.
Better than flu meds on steroids..."
I said. And I was sure of it too. I was confident of my secret tea's ability to out herb his pathetic witches brew. I could already see it as I heated the kettle. With each cupful of my magic potion, his flu symptoms would be cut down to size until not even a sniffle remained.
I gave him that first cup of LIME LEAF TEA and he went to bed. The next morning I proudly asked "how are you feeling?" His response? "I don't know"
Psh! He doesn't even know how good he feels, I thought. He was still sniffling and coughing. But I knew it was alot less. The next evening, in utter betrayal, he drank more of the joker of a brew, mainly because it had some still within his tired, sneezy reach.
He discovered that it was making him bring up the mucus more..but did nothing for really making him better. Since I'm not the kind to say I told you so (out loud), I said it in my mind as I gave him another dose of LIME LEAF TEA. The next morning, he announced (and I quote) " I really think that lime leaf is working...give me more of that"..
And since I'm not the kind to say I told you so...I just said "I know" 😎
Check out this cool site to see why LIME LEAVES are so effective in sticking it to the cold. It has a lot to do with it's vitamin C content and it's uncanny ability to actually reduce the symptoms of a cold or flu (probably due to it's magic alkalizing properties).
I discovered that this remedy works better than a lot of other ones I've tried when my kids had full blown colds. We're talking Thyme, Basil, Mint and ...yes Honey Suckle...but none worked as good as plain old Lime Leaves. Don't get me wrong. They're great and do their part but...
And you're also wondering...well then lime squeezed in water should work even better! Perhaps, but because it's a bit too acidic for my kids to stomach, I prefer to...
Wash 3 to 5 large lime leaves for the kids or 6 to 10 large lime leaves if using for myself. Bring water to a boil and pour over them and let cool while covered. I'd mix in some lemon grass to help get rid of any prolonged fever and...
There you have it...Nature's secret for a natural fix for colds.
